When will the DRSS open? The first class of 9th grade students will begin classes in Fall 2009.
When can students begin applying? Applications will likely be available in February 2009.
Where will the school be located? We are currently trying to identify a permanent site for the DRSS. In the meantime, there are several locations that are available for temporary (2-3 years) use. Most locations are in close proximity to Wright State University and Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
Will students be able to participate in extracurricular activities (sports, band, orchestra, drama, etc.)? All DRSS students will be able to participate in extracurricular activities at their home district schools. However, the DRSS will be a different school that will not offer a comprehensive social and extra-curricular environment, rather the focus will be on a commitment to academic excellence, personalized learning, and project based learning using STEM as the thematic thread connecting all of the liberal arts and humanities with math and science.
How will students get to DRSS? Transportation will not be provided by DRSS, however, home districts may provide vouchers and/or busing for students. Of course, parents/mentors may drop-off and pick-up students at the school.
Is there tuition? No. DRSS is a public school and financed by state funds.
Do students have to be top students to get into DRSS? No. DRSS will not achievement tests as a part of the selection process. Students will be on grade level, drug free, and a student in good standing in their home district.
Who can attend DRSS? Any student from Clark, Greene, and Montgomery counties in grades 6-12 who has been promoted to the next grade level, is drug free and is in good standing in their home district.
How many students will be admitted? DRSS will serve grades 6 – 12 with a maximum of 80 students per grade, a total of 560 students. The school admission plan is as follows:| 2009-10: | Grade 9 |
