Welcome to the Dayton Regional STEM School!
One of 10 public STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) schools being created across Ohio, the Dayton Regional STEM School offers students a relevant, real world educational experience which will prepare them for college and opportunities in the work world – in essence, a springboard for developing and maintaining the Dayton region’s talent base.
According to Dayton Regional STEM School Principal Brian Boyd, “Our School’s mission – ‘to prepare students with the skills necessary to compete in the global economy while nurturing in our young people the same enthusiasm for discovery, invention and application that launched the vision for powered flight’ – is inspired by the Dayton region’s history, and is aimed at ensuring our community’s future success.”
The Dayton Regional STEM School began with its first class of ninth-graders on August 17, 2009. The class consists of 74 students from across Clark, Greene and Montgomery counties, coming from 20 of the 30 school districts in those counties. The Dayton Regional STEM School will grow-out by two grades each year, until it ultimately serves grade 6-12 students beginning in 2012. The target number of students for each grade is between 80-100.
The Dayton Regional STEM School’s ninth-grade curriculum consists of: Language Arts 9 (1 credit); U.S. History (1 credit); Integrated Math 1 (1 credit); Conceptual Physics (1 credit); Introduction to Engineering Design (1/2 credit); Fine Arts (1 credit); and Chinese I (1 credit).
