Dr. Brian Boyd Principal Brian Boyd is the Principal of the Dayton Regional STEM School. He holds a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning with a focus in Mathematics Education and Rural Education from the University of Louisville, a Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton, and dual Bachelors degrees from Miami University. Brian has experience as a high school math teacher and middle school principal in Dayton area schools. Just prior to developing the Dayton Regional STEM School, he worked at Wright State as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education. Brian resides in Vandalia with his wife, Angie, and their three children.

Linda Hallinan Science/Engineering Linda Hallinan teaches Science and Engineering for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Akron and a Masters degree in Education from the University of Dayton. Throughout her 20+ year career as an engineer, Linda helped to design missile launchers for CG class Navy ships, commercial and military aircraft wheels and brakes, the first ever rear electric brake design for electric vehicles, and many other technologies. In 2006 Linda decided upon a career change and earned her teaching license for grades 7-12 in Physics and Mathematics. Prior to joining the Dayton Regional STEM School, she taught as a long-term substitute in both Math and Science in the Oakwood and Brookville School Districts.

Judy Brown Mathematics Judy Brown teaches Mathematics for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds a BS degree in Mathematics Education from Miami University, and a Masters of Education degree from Xavier University. Judy has experience as a Mathematics teacher and School Counselor in the Northwest Local School and Norwood City School Districts in Cincinnati. She has also taught a graduate Methods course for Math teachers at the College of Mount Saint Joseph. Most recently, Judy wrote Mathematics curriculum for Eckerd Youth Alternatives, which has 23 schools in eight states.

Kevin Lydy Social Studies Kevin Lydy teaches Social Studies for the Dayton Regional STEM School. He holds a BA degree in History, with a double minor in Political Science and Education, from Wittenberg University. After teaching English for two years in Japan, Kevin was a teaching assistant at Miami University while earning his Masters degree in Education. Kevin brings a variety of experiences to the Dayton Regional STEM School including teaching Social Studies, Mathematics, Language Arts, Japanese, Modern World Studies and Psychology. His most recent teaching experiences were with Southern Hills Academy in Chillicothe, Ohio and the Ohio Virtual Academy.

Jackie Harris Language Arts Jackie Harris teaches Language Arts for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds a Master of Education degree in Curriculum Instruction with a focus on Reading from Grand Canyon University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Louisville. Certified to teach in Ohio and Texas, Jackie’s previous teaching experience consists of three years of teaching middle school Language Arts and TAKS reading in Texas, and three years of teaching high school and middle school Language Arts in the Dayton Public School District and the Richard Allen School District.

Lily Chen Chinese Lily Chen teaches Chinese for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds a Masters degree in Education from the University of Minnesota with a Master in Education. During the 20 years Lily has been living in the Dayton area, she has worked as a substitute teacher in multiple school districts including Bellbrook, Centerville, Beavercreek and Kettering. Lily collaborated with the ESOL department in the Kettering School District as a contract translator and tutor to help students who came from China during their transitional stages. She was the Chinese teacher for regular Chinese classes and bilingual classes at the Dayton Chinese School, and periodically teaches a Chinese conversation class for the Greene County Career Center.

Marsha Markert Chinese Marsha Markert teaches Chinese for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She received a Bachelors degree in Chinese Language & Culture and a Masters degree in Education in China, and spent many years teaching there as a Chinese professor. After coming to the United States 14 years ago, Marsha worked with the Baylor College of Medicine. She also taught Chinese for the Huaxia Chinese School on the weekends in Houston, Texas. Marsha became a Chinese teacher at Centerville High School when she and her family moved to Ohio.

Robin Fisher School Counselor Robin Fisher is the School Counselor for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds a BS degree in Microbiology from The Pennsylvania State University, a MS degree in Biological Science and a M.Ed. in School Counseling from Wright State University. Most recently, Robin served as the Guidance Director and Senior Counselor at Bellbrook High School. She was a middle school/high school counselor at West Liberty-Salem prior to that. Robin’s previous professional experiences were in the fields of medical microbiology, human health risk assessment and environmental toxicology.

Jennifer Helton Intervention Specialist Jennifer Helton is the Intervention Specialist for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds a BS degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree for Intervention Specialist from Wright State University. Jennifer has experience teaching Math, Social Studies, Reading and Science at the middle school level in public and private schools. She is co-founder of SPICE at St. Peter (Special People in Catholic Education), where she works with the students, parents, staff and administration to create an inclusive environment in the private school through raising funds, providing in-services to teachers, and facilitating meetings between families and staff. Jennifer has also been a member of SAPEC (State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children) through the Ohio Department of Education. Her interest in special education has strengthened over the past nine years through her work as a strong advocate for her youngest son who has multiple disabilities.

Susan Praeger School Nurse Susan Praeger is the School Nurse for the Dayton Regional STEM School. Concurrently, she is a Professor of Nursing at Wright State University College of Nursing and Health where she directs the School Nurse program. Susan holds an Ed.D. in Humanistic Nursing Education and a Masters degree in Nursing. She is also a fellow in the Academy of the National Association of School Nurses. Prior to the Dayton Regional STEM School, Susan was the School Nurse in Yellow Springs. Her most recent adventure was traveling to Kuwait to work with school nurses from the Middle East and to help in the development of school health services in Kuwait.

Molly Johnson Administrative Assistant Molly Johnson is the Administrative Assistant for the Dayton Regional STEM School. She holds an Associates degree in Applied Science from Bowling Green State University. Molly brings seven years of school experience, having worked as the Administrative Assistant for Riverside Local Schools in Logan County and at Northside Middle School in Warner Robins, Georgia. Prior to becoming an administrative assistant, she spent three years in the classroom as a Teaching Assistant for students with special needs. Molly has been married for 23 years and has three children.

Laurie McFarlin Communications and Partnerships Laurie McFarlin is the Director, Network Relationships and Communications for the Dayton Regional STEM School, coordinating the School’s internal, external, community and partner communications efforts. She holds a BA degree in Mass Communications with a Public Relations emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Laurie has over 25 years of corporate communications experience with a variety of businesses and industries including American Steamship Company, Wisconsin Natural Gas Company, Harley-Davidson Motor Company and Mead. Laurie has lived in the Dayton area for 11 years and resides in Centerville.
