ACE Week & STEM Design Challenge

JANUARY 28, 2024

Dear STEM Families,

We will be very busy at STEM this week! This year, we are combining ACE Week and our annual School-Wide Design Challenge.

ACE week is set aside as a time for us to highlight the importance of culture. There will be activities throughout the week to celebrate kindness, acceptance, and our five important qualities. Daily dress up themes are listed below:

  • Monday: (Super) Powered by Persistence – dress as your favorite super hero
  • Tuesday: Keep it Kind – wear a shirt with a kind saying
  • Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday – wear your wackiest outfit
  • Thursday: Thinking Hat Thursday – hat day
  • Friday: STEM Spirit Day – dress in your favorite STEM gear or STEM color

Our second School-Wide Design Challenge is also taking place this week. Mixed grade-level teams have already been meeting and planning for our culminating full-day event on Friday, February 2nd. The driving question for the challenge is "How can drones be used to solve a problem or enrich the experience of people in the Dayton region?" Students will be answering this question through the lens of a particular career field (Architecture & Construction, Communication, Health & Science, Agriculture, Transportation, Law/Public Safety). The finished project will be a simulation demonstrating the group’s creative idea. Professional partners will be onsite to provide feedback, suggestions and a score on their design thinking skills.

Thank you to STEM parents, staff, partners, and presenting sponsor MTSI for participating in our NOV8 Giving Day and supplying our students and staff with drones and challenge materials. We appreciate your support!

A special shout out to our teachers and staff for being so flexible and creative, and for striving every day to provide engaging and impactful learning experiences for our students. The successes of the school are due to their dedication and hard work.

Thank you,
